Why should I see an orthodontic specialist?
To be sure that the tissues supporting the teeth are able to remain healthy and the end result of orthodontic treatment is healthy teeth and gums and a beautiful smile that lasts a lifetime.

Am I too old for Braces?
We treat patients in our office ranging in age from 6-60 – everyone deserves a beautiful smile!!

How long will I be wearing my braces?
Treatment times vary depending on the complexity of the treatment plan. Braces may typically be worn between six and 24 months.

Can I have coloured elastics on my braces?
If you can think of a colour, Dr. Thompson probably has it - including glow-in-the-dark!

If I proceed with orthodontic treatment, will I require extractions?
We try to avoid extractions whenever possible, however, sometimes it is our only option to ensure the best possible result. Sometimes there is just not enough room.

Is orthodontic treatment uncomfortable?
Some patients feel pressure on their teeth for 24-48 hours following adjustment of their braces, other patients feel nothing.

Will I require a retainer?
Yes. A retainer will ensure that your teeth remain in their new position once the braces have been removed. Typically, they are worn for six months full time followed by one year of nighttime wear, but protocol varies with treatment plans. Some patients choose to wear their retainers several nights a week for life just to ensure they are able to maintain the beautiful smile they had at the time the braces were removed. Clear retainers and bonded wires are sometimes used.
